What do you do when you arrive for a lockout call?

We arrive, introduce ourselves, confirm your identity with ID, and ask a few questions—how long you’ve lived there, how you’re locked out, whether the landlord or owner is contactable. For rental properties, we may call the landlord or real estate to verify your tenancy. Once confirmed, we inspect the lock and door to choose the fastest, least-damaging entry method. Non-destructive tools come first: shimming a latch, manipulating a pin stack, or working a key through a window. Only if the lock is too old or damaged do we drill. We document what we’ve done, leave your door and lock intact or repaired, and provide an invoice. Once we’ve verified you’re authorized, the whole process is usually quick.

What’s the fastest way to open a locked door?

It depends on the lock type. A simple pin-tumbler deadbolt can often be opened in minutes with the right technique and a set of picks or manipulators. A high-security Grade 4 anti-pick cylinder takes longer, or drilling becomes the pragmatic choice. Old, loose locks from the 1980s often surrender in seconds. Modern Schlage or Yale deadbolts are typically mid-range. We carry multiple sets of tools and can assess your specific lock in person. The goal is always speed without damage. If we need to drill, we drill the cylinder cleanly and can often fit a new one the same day, leaving you with a functioning lock and a single key, rather than leaving you unable to lock your door at night.

How much does an emergency lockout cost?

Call 0411 340 242 and we’ll quote a fixed price over the phone based on your location and the lock type. We don’t charge a call-out fee separate from the job; the quote includes labor and materials. For a straightforward lockout on a standard deadbolt in Coogee or Bondi, expect an affordable flat rate. If drilling is needed, that’s factored in. We’re transparent—no hidden charges, no surprise invoice. If your lock is damaged and needs replacement, we’ll quote the new cylinder separately and ask your approval before we fit it.

Can you open my door without damaging the lock?

Usually, yes. Non-destructive entry is our first choice. We use pick sets, raking techniques, shimming, manipulation of the key or latch, and sometimes spring tools that gently manipulate pins without forcing. For locks made in the last 20 years, we open most residential lockouts without any damage. Older or very tight locks may not yield. Very high-security cylinders are designed to resist picking and may require drilling. If we can’t open it cleanly, we explain the options and ask your permission before drilling.

What if I’m locked out at 2 a.m. on a Sunday?

Call 0411 340 242. We operate 24/7, including weekends, public holidays, and the middle of the night. We aim to reach most Eastern Suburbs lockouts within 30 minutes. You may need to wait a little longer on a busy night or if you’re in a remote part of the region, but we don’t turn away 2 a.m. calls. Emergency lockouts are precisely why we exist. Have your ID ready when we arrive.

What happens if I’m locked out and you can’t reach me by phone?

Call us—that’s the only way we know to send help. If the number goes to voicemail, leave a message with your address and phone number. We respond to emergency voicemails in priority order. Alternatively, if you’re at a neighbor’s house or a nearby cafe, text the same information. For business lockouts, call the owner or manager to authorize our entry. We won’t break into a property without clear authorization from someone we can verify.

What if the lock is broken and won’t open, even for me?

Call us. A seized or damaged lock that won’t turn for anyone is the locksmith’s bread and butter. Common causes are rust, internal wear, or a stuck key. We’ll assess whether the cylinder can be freed with lubricant and manipulation, or whether it needs drilling and replacement. If it’s rusted solid—which we see often in coastal suburbs like Bondi, Maroubra, and Rose Bay—drilling is often the fastest option. We can fit a new cylinder the same day, usually on the spot, leaving you with a working lock and working key.

What if I’ve lost my keys and I’m locked out?

Same process. We open the door, verify your identity (you’ll need photo ID and proof of residency like a driver’s license or recent utility bill), and get you inside. Once you’re in, we can code a new key from the cylinder if you have a spare key lying around the house, or we extract the cylinder and inspect it to cut a new key. If you don’t have any key—it happens—we’ll code the lock by sight and issue a new key before we leave. Cost depends on whether drilling is needed and whether we’re replacing the cylinder.

What’s the difference between emergency service and standard locksmith hours?

There’s no difference in service quality. We operate 24/7, so an 11 p.m. lockout on a Friday is handled the same way as a 9 a.m. one on a Tuesday. Our tools, expertise, and process are identical. We’ll charge a fixed rate appropriate to the job; there’s no emergency surcharge if the hour is inconvenient for you. We simply show up and do the work.

Frequently asked questions

If you drill my lock, do I need a new key?

Yes. Drilling destroys the internal pin stack, so your old key is now useless. We’ll fit a new cylinder (or re-pin the old one if it’s still usable) and issue you new keys. The cost of the new cylinder and keys is usually factored into the quote, or quoted separately if you decide to drill after we’ve assessed the lock.

Will you damage my door frame when you open it?

Our goal is to open the lock, not damage the door. If the frame is solid and the lock is a standard pin-tumbler, we won’t need to pry or force anything. If the lock is very tight or damaged, we might apply gentle pressure to the door to align the bolt, but we don’t kick doors or use a crowbar on the frame. For older, weaker frames, we’re especially careful. If damage does occur, which is rare, we’ll document it and note it on the invoice.

Can I call the landlord instead of the locksmith?

Yes, if your landlord is available and can reach you with a key quickly. But if it’s the middle of the night, your landlord is away, or they’re unreachable, call us. We can verify your tenancy and open the door. The cost is usually lower than a hotel room for the night, and much faster than waiting for the landlord to make a trip.

What ID do I need to prove I live there?

Bring a photo ID (driver’s license, passport) and ideally a recent utility bill, rental agreement, or lease showing your name and the address. If you’re a tenant, the landlord’s contact number is helpful so we can confirm your residency. For business lockouts, bring business ID or a letter from the owner authorizing you to access the premises.

How do I prevent future lockouts?

Hide a spare key in a secure lockbox on the property (not under a pot or mat—that’s the first place a thief looks). Give a spare to a trusted neighbor. Fit a keypad or smart lock so you can access with a code instead of a key. Install a key-holder by the door inside your home so you always know where your keys are. For rental properties or offices, keep a spare cylinder or key on file with your property manager or in a secure location, accessible to authorized staff only.
